Ian Hulatt, Mental Health Lead at the RCN, describes their new video, Mental Health Nursing: Keep it in Mind.

The mental  health nursing forum here at the RCN wanted to find a medium to convey not only the diverse ways in  which its members work but also attempt to surface the traditionally considered “invisible” way they work as nurses. This DVD attempts by interviewing practising nurses to convey something about who they are and what they do. It is a collection of simple everyday accounts of the very real difference they make in the lives of those they work with, including the experience of a client cared for at times of crisis. Challenging and at times moving this DVD is also available to view on the front page of the RCN website at www.rcn.org.uk

Good. I really think it is a great idea to give people a true insight into the profession - I think sometimes people misunderstand what would be involved in mental health nursing so avoid it. That is a shame as I've been doing it for years now and find it so rewarding - hopefully people will see this video and follow suit.
(For anyone who does and wants to know more about getting a job in the field, I can really recommend www.nursingjobs.com - it helped me find a really great place and I've never looked back!)
